Overview
I work a lot at my computer, and for a long time I've been looking for a chair that would simply feel comfortable enough to upgrade my workstation. My previous chairs always felt like a compromise when it came to comfort, so this time I decided I was ready to invest more, with the goal of finding a chair that would genuinely reward my back.
I was originally aiming for a high-end office chair, but during my search I got the chance to try the noblechairs ICON, which is branded as a gaming chair. It impressed me with its solid design and sitting comfort, so I decided to buy it. Did I make the right choice, and is there more here than just a chair branded for a gaming audience?
Product Description
The noblechairs ICON Black & Gold Edition is part of the brand's ICON series of premium gaming and office chairs. It is upholstered in faux leather (PU) over cold-foam padding, and according to the manufacturer, it is designed around ergonomics and adjustability. It ships with a head cushion and a lumbar cushion included.
The chair's frame combines a steel core with an aluminium base, finished in a matte black powder coat, and it rolls on nylon/polyurethane castors suited for both hard and soft flooring. The armrests are 4D adjustable (height, depth, width and tilt), and the backrest reclines between 90° and 135°.
The Black & Gold Edition reviewed here is one of several color options in the ICON series. noblechairs also offers the ICON upholstered in Real Leather, High-Tech Faux Leather, and Fabric, all sharing the same base design and dimensions.

Pros
Solid designSuitable both as a gaming and an office chair.
High quality materialsIt's faux leather, but it feels premium, and it has held up well over time. I've had this chair for a long while now, using it under reasonable everyday use, including a chair cover.
Excellent packagingEverything came so organized, which made the unboxing & assembling the chair easy tasks.
Robust steel baseThe ICON's metal base is steady as a rock. There's a good alignment between the chair's seat, hydraulic piston and base that manages well with the weight of the person sitting on the chair and prevents unwanted movement.
Very comfortableFrom the first moment I sat on the noblechairs ICON, it felt like a natural fit for my needs. It provides excellent support for my back while sitting in a convenient posture that doesn't feel forced.I occasionally work for several hours without leaving the chair, and though sitting for long periods isn't recommended, I can still say the chair stays comfortable.
Adjusts in various waysThe noblechairs ICON adjusts in several ways, and I'm sure many people will be able to find a sitting position they're happy with.
Smooth castorsAlthough the wheels might look simple, the chair's movement is precise, and it doesn't wander without permission, whether I'm sitting on it or walking away from it.
4D armrestsThe armrests can move up/down, left/right, and in/out, so there are endless possibilities to adjust them. I'm sure everyone will find a convenient position for their hands, or can lower them out of the way entirely.In my video, you can see me demonstrate every possible way you can adjust the armrests.
Cons
PriceThis is a relatively expensive chair.
Metal particles from the screwsAfter inserting the side plastic covers, I found metal particles from putting pressure on the screws. I am not sure if this says something about the quality of the screws, but I did not expect it to happen.
The lower back cushionAt first I installed both cushions, but I decided to remove the lower one soon after. It provides support to my lower back, but I had to adjust it every time I sat on the chair. I am not sure if this is because I did not place the cushion properly, and I did not want to stretch the strings too much for nothing.
It might get sweatySweat can appear beneath the legs if I sit with short pants, and on the armrests if my hands are there and it is too hot. These are familiar issues with PU leather chairs, and you should be aware of that.
Gets dusty easilyBecause the chair's cover is made from PU leather, it absorbs dust easily. Every few days I need to go over the chair with a cloth and wipe the dust off it.
