This was my first portable wireless keyboard. I bought it to use with my iPad, hoping it would let me work more productively on the go and reduce my dependence on a full laptop.
My reasoning was straightforward: if I was going to invest in a Bluetooth keyboard, it made sense to start with a reputable brand like Microsoft, even at a higher price. I wanted to know whether a quality keyboard could genuinely turn a tablet into a real work tool.

The Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard is a compact Bluetooth 3.0 keyboard designed for use with tablets and smartphones. It measures 242 x 109 x 12mm and weighs 365 grams including the built-in rechargeable lithium battery, which lasts up to 6 months on a single charge.
It pairs with up to 3 devices simultaneously and includes dedicated OS-switch keys for Windows, iOS, and Android. The integrated stand fits devices up to 10mm thin, and the detachable cover doubles as a stand. Wireless range is up to 10 meters. Compatible with Windows 7 and above, Apple iOS 6 and above, and Android 4.2 and above.

Cover Doubles as a Stand The detachable cover converts into a device stand with two angle options, making it practical for use with a phone or tablet on a desk or table.
Cons
Charging Port Reliability Issue The charging port failed twice without any obvious cause. Both times required a warranty replacement. The 3-year warranty covered it, but the fact that it happened more than once is a concern worth noting before purchasing.
Overall Verdict
The Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard is a premium product that earns its price in build quality, typing feel, and versatility. Pairing is easy, battery life is excellent, and the cover-to-stand conversion is genuinely practical.
The charging port reliability is a serious concern. It failed twice on my unit without any obvious cause, and after some research I found this was not an isolated issue — other users reported the same problem. The 3-year warranty is what saved the situation both times, but for a keyboard at this price point, that is not something you should have to rely on.
A premium Bluetooth keyboard with excellent build quality and usability, but a documented charging port reliability issue. If you buy it, keep the warranty details handy.
