Here is my review of the Aurorae Synergy 5mm yoga mat.

I tested this mat for several months before writing this review. I tend to practice 4-5 times a week various yoga styles, and I tried several yoga mats before, so I have a good comparison to the Aurorae Synergy yoga mat.

The pros:

Absorbs sweat well – Say bye bye to slipping on your mat
during practice. The absorption capability of this mat is the best thing about
it. For people who tend to sweat a lot during intensive yoga practice, this mat
is definitely a game-changer.

Well padded – the mat itself isn’t that thick. And yet, it is very comfortable thanks to the padding at the back side of it.

If you want to know how it feels, imagine yourself placing the palm of your hand wide open on the mat (for instance, during Adho Mukha Svanasana / downward-facing dog pose), and feeling the padding from the bottom part.

The mat would fit people who suffer from knee problems, though there’s no extra padding in the knees area, and it’s not a designated mat for this type of problem.

Doesn’t suffer from bad odor – I’ve been using this mat for several months now, and surprisingly, so far there’s no bad smell.

It isn’t as heavy as I expected – The mat weighs approx. 3 pounds (approx. 1.3 kilos), and although there are lighter mats, I thought it would be heavier.

The weight factor becomes an issue for me if I travel with the mat, or have a long day out of my office and have to carry the mat with me.

The cons:

The mat isn’t a replacement for your towel – If you start sweating during a workout, you still need to wipe yourself. If you plan to do that using the mat, you’ll look quite ridiculous, so having this mat doesn’t exempt you from using a towel.

Unnecessary logo imprint at the front of the mat – It is sticky and eventually will peel off the mat. It would have been much better if the logo was tailored to the mat.

Certain poses require adjustment – When the top part of my foot is touching the mat during movement, for instance when switching from upward facing dog to downward facing dog, it scratches a bit my foot. Though it doesn’t leave a mark, it takes time to get used to this feeling.

Absolute price – This is not a cheap mat at all. It would probably cost you less to place a towel over a mat, but in this case, this means you have to carry both the mat & a towel.

My carry strap doesn’t manage to hold it properly – For some reason, when I tie the mat with a carry strap, the mat slips.

This is causing 2 things:

I need to fix the hold of the carry strap so the mat won’t slip and fall.
It’s not so convenient to carry the mat.

Unless there’s a different strap that can hold this mat properly, I would advise you to use a carry bag with this mat.
