Wordfence Security – Firewall & Malware Scan | WordPress Plugin Review

In this post I will explain why I chose Wordfence Security plugin to protect my WordPress website and why you should consider to install it on your WordPress website as well

Do I need to protect my WordPress website?

Definitely YES!

If you own a WordPress website, you MUST know that you need to protect it – This isn’t a recommendation, but an obligation.

While some people are aware that they should use all sorts of cyber protection on their website, there are many people who don’t know that.

Some of these people will eventually learn that their website needs a protection, either on the easy way or the hard way.

What should I know if I want to protect my WordPress website?

When you’ll realize that you need a protection, you probably encounter the obstacle of finding the right security solution.

Here are some of the questions that you probably will ask yourself:

  • What are the options for a WordPress website?
  • Which alternative is the best?
  • How much will it cost to protect my WordPress website?
  • Can I do it on my own or should I use the services of a professional to do that for me?

How do you know if your WordPress website is infected with a Malware?

Let me tell you what I had to go through when learning that my WordPress website is infected with a malware. I’m not sure exactly when it began, but I realized that once I noticed a massive decline in the number of impressions & visitors on my website, and the income from my website (Google Ads & affiliate links).

This is something that you can learn from Google Analytics, WordPress analytics plugins and affiliate dashboards.

What can you do to protect your WordPress website?

At first, I contacted my hosting provider (Bluehost), and their customer support confirmed to me that my website is infected with a malware.

Bluehost’s customer support representatives recommended me to use a service named SiteLock Essential Security to clean the malware and protect my website. Unfortunately, this solution isn’t cheap at all, and it was very frustrating to learn that, because only Bluehost insists this isn’t their responsibility to protect their servers. To be honest, this claim made me suspect that Bluehost is related to the security issues just for me to purchase the SiteLock Essential Security for a hefty sum of money. Keep in mind this is only an assumption and I can’t confirm that (but I’m not the only person who thinks that).

I Googled for similar solutions, but none of them was cheap either. Also, I tried to consult with people on designated Facebook Groups, but most of those who acknowledged me tried to offer me their services. And in most cases their offers seemed questionable at best, and not that different than Bluehost’s offer.
