Overview

I'd been meaning to set up a proper smartphone stand in my amazing car, something that would keep my phone within easy reach for calls, controls, and navigation alike, without feeling like an afterthought.

What I didn't want was another flimsy stand that rattles loose or falls apart after a few weeks. The V30S caught my eye because it sits snugly inside the cup holder, and once I looked closer, I found it also supports wireless charging and opens and closes automatically with a simple hand gesture. Neither feature was a dealbreaker going in, but once I knew they were part of the package, I figured it was worth a try.

It also comes at a tempting price, so either way, this was going to be worth sharing: if it impressed me, I'd get to tell you about it with pride, and if it didn't, I'd get to save you the disappointment. Win-win for all of us, wouldn't you say?

Car Wireless Smartphone Charger

The V30S car wireless smartphone charger combines wireless charging with two mounting options, a cup holder mount and a vent clip mount, aimed at keeping your phone charged and easily accessible while driving.

The charger features infrared sensors on both the front (the two transparent circles) and the back (near the "Power" symbol), which control the automatic clamps. A simple wave of your hand near these sensors extends the clamps automatically, eliminating the need to physically touch the charger. The smartphone can then charge either wirelessly or using the included magnetic connectors, depending on the type (iPhone/iOS, USB-C, or Micro-USB).

The cup holder mount's adjustable base is designed to fit a variety of cars with cup sockets. Once adjusted, it's intended to keep your smartphone easily accessible for control and navigation while driving.

Pros

Responsive Auto-Clamping Motion Sensors Two motion sensors, one on the front and one on the back, let the clamp open and close automatically with a simple wave of your hand, responding quickly without needing repeated attempts.

Secure Clamping Grip The clamp holds the smartphone securely during the ride, with rubber-coated edges that ensure a tight grip without damage, even on bumpy roads or sharp turns.

Reasonable Charging Speed Output ranges between 5W-15W. On a Samsung Galaxy S24 with no background apps running, it took about 3 minutes to add 1% battery, not the fastest, but it gets the job done.

Compatibility With Various Mounts Comes with a flexible cup holder mount and a vent clip mount, and is also compatible with other mounts like a windshield suction cup.

Charging for Non-Wireless Smartphones Swappable magnetic connectors (iOS, USB-C, Micro-USB) let it charge phones that don't support wireless charging too.

Cons

No Manual Clamping Adjustment The clamping mechanism relies entirely on the sensor system, with no memory function for your phone's size. It always extends to the maximum width and then retracts until it senses the phone.

Dependence on Power Source Without an active power source, the clamping mechanism is inoperable, so your car needs to be ignited to place or remove your phone from the mount.

No Fast Charging Capabilities Output tops out at a reasonable 5W-15W, but there's no fast charging, which may disappoint users used to quicker wired solutions.

Overall Verdict

Overall, the V30S delivered on what I actually needed it for. The stand itself is excellent, it fits perfectly into a cup holder, and once positioned correctly, it's very stable. The height worked well for me, though if you'd want it higher or lower, you can likely find similar mounts in other heights if you look around, and in any case, you can play with the angle until you land on something comfortable. The automatic hand-gesture opening and closing works really well too, it pleasantly surprised me.

The charging itself is a different story. It's slow, and it mostly holds the battery level rather than actually filling it up. I used this with a Galaxy S24 Ultra, whose battery tends to drain fairly quickly, and on long drives where I relied on it a lot, it mainly kept the battery from dropping, at best holding it around the same percentage throughout the ride. Actually charging it up meaningfully only happened when the phone wasn't in active use at all, and even then, it was slow. You can plug it into a regular wired charger while it's wirelessly charging too, I don't think that affects anything. The price is reasonable, and given everything else it gets right, that's easy to live with.

The Bottom Line

A great product if you're looking for a car phone stand and this fits your setup, just don't let the wireless charging be the reason you buy it.

FAQ

What are the magnetic adapters for?
For charging smartphones that don't support wireless charging.
How does the magnetic adapter work?
It is very simple. Depending on the device you are using, just plug the relevant magnetic connector into your smartphone's charging port, and place the phone into the charger. Now the smartphone should charge as if it is connected to a wired charger.
Does it work with a phone case on?
I used it with a book-style flip case, which was a bit awkward with the clamps and wireless charging. Your best bet is a simple, slim case that still allows wireless charging, if your case supports that, there's a good chance it will fit here too.
What happens if I turn off the car while my phone is on the mount?
As long as the power source is supplying power to the charger, it will charge. In my case, once the car was off, the outlet stopped supplying power, so charging stopped as well.
Does it support MagSafe for iPhone?
It supports standard wireless charging, but I didn't have a MagSafe-compatible case to test with at the time, so I'd suggest not counting on MagSafe support here.
Can I remove the phone manually if the sensors don't respond?
You can remove it fairly easily, but I wouldn't recommend forcing it out manually, that's likely to damage the opening/closing clamp mechanism fairly quickly.
