Overview

How do you like the setup of your coffee machine, with a built-in milk frother, or a separate one?

Every Nespresso machine I've owned before this one had it separate: the coffee machine on one side of the counter, and a separate milk frother sitting next to it. So when the Nespresso Lattissima One came out as a brand-new model with the milk frother built directly into the machine itself, the Rapid Cappuccino System (RCS), I was curious enough to pick one up.

The real question I wanted to answer with this review was simple: would folding the frother into the machine actually make my daily routine easier and upgrade my coffee experience, or would it just trade one set of hassles for another?

Product Description

Lattissima One
Type
Capsule coffee machine with built-in milk frother

The Nespresso Lattissima One is a capsule coffee machine that combines an espresso maker with a built-in automatic milk frother, the Rapid Cappuccino System (RCS), inside a single compact, box-shaped body.

The flat, 1 liter water tank sits attached to the back of the machine rather than protruding as a separate pipe-shaped tank, which keeps the overall footprint smaller. A capsule compartment on top holds up to 10 used capsules before it needs emptying, and a sliding cup support underneath the coffee outlet adjusts to fit both tall and small cups.

The RCS clips onto the side of the machine and uses its own detachable milk container. According to the manufacturer, the milk system is designed for skimmed or semi-skimmed cow milk at refrigerator temperature, and it has not been designed to work with plant-based milk.

Pros

Modern Design The Lattissima One is an impressive, stylish, modern coffee machine.

Compact Size Despite having a built-in milk frother (the RCS), a 1 liter water tank, and a 10-capsule container, the box-shape design keeps the machine space-saving.

Practical Water Tank The 1 liter water tank is flat and attaches well to the back of the machine, which I personally find more practical than the pipe-shaped tanks used on other Nespresso machines.

Convenient Capsule Storage The container holds up to 10 capsules (sometimes 9, almost never 11, and don't count on 12), which is a good amount in my opinion since you don't have to empty it too often.

Versatile Cup Support The coffee outlet height works fine for most tall glasses, and the sliding cup support makes it excellent for small glasses too.

Cons

Cleaning The RCS You'll need to do this almost every time you use it, which means disassembling it and cleaning each part. The user manual describes proper cleaning as a task on its own, so in practice I usually just wash it with soap and water.

Not Meant To Sit Out It's not recommended to leave the RCS outside for too long, since the milk gets dry and sticky, and it can attract flies through the cavities on the lid.

Occasional Milk Spitting The RCS occasionally spits milk while it's working. Directing the milk spout properly toward the cup lowers the chances, but it's still something that doesn't usually happen with a separate milk frother.

Milk Foam Density It's fine in my opinion, but if you prefer denser milk foam, you'll be better off with a separate milk frother.

No Automatic Milk Quantity You can't automatically define the quantity of milk used in the RCS.

Leftover Milk Waste There's always some milk left in the RCS after use, and since it's not meant to be stored in the fridge, there's a good chance it ends up wasted. Some coffee machines, including at least one other Nespresso machine, use a separate removable milk container instead, which you can take out and put back in the fridge as needed. The Lattissima One doesn't offer that option.

Overall Verdict

The Nespresso Lattissima One looks good and modern, and the thing that stands out most about it is how compact it manages to be despite having a built-in milk frother. You don't need a separate frother taking up extra counter space, everything is built into one box-shaped machine.

The RCS itself does the job, but it comes with real day-to-day maintenance: it needs to be cleaned almost every time you use it, and leftover milk tends to go to waste since it's not meant to be stored in the fridge. If dense, cafe-style foam or minimal cleanup matter more to you than compact convenience, a separate dedicated frother will likely serve you better.

If you're not a heavy coffee drinker and design and counter space matter to you, the Lattissima One is a great personal machine.

The Bottom Line

A compact, good-looking all-in-one Nespresso machine that's best suited for light-to-moderate coffee drinkers who value design and space over dense milk foam and low-maintenance cleanup.
