Summary:

An affordable gaming headset that sounds great, has modern design with futuristic LEDs, includes a reasonable built-in-microphone, light & comfortable to wear.

The brand: EasySMX
The model: COOL 2000

The pros:

Can be used with computers and game consoles – The COOL 2000 is a wired headset with LED lights. You can use it with every device that has a 3.5mm socket. But the LED feature is what gives it the “Gaming” aura. And gamers can use it with either computers and/or game consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo etc.) as long as they have a USB port.

Overall design – I already reviewed a gaming headset by EasySMX (an older version named ESM-V350) and I think the COOL 2000 looks even better.

The LED lights looks great – you can choose between 3 different
illumination modes for the headphones LED – Rotation, Breathing & Solid. Each of the 3 modes is awesome. Also, you can choose if the mic’s LED will be on/off.

Neither one of the LEDs bothered my sight while wearing the headset.

In this video I got to try the blue LED version, but you can get the COOL 2000 in several other colors (red, orange) that seem to be nice as well.

Built quality & durability – Though the COOL 2000 is made from simple materials (including plastic), everything is in it’s place. There are no unwanted movements of the parts, and the outcome is a fine device that doesn’t feel cheap.

As can be seen in the video, I’ve put pressure on the headset, but the arc is elastic enough to withstand the pressure. If you’re going to use it for gaming purposes, then I don’t see any reason why it won’t last over time.

The adjustable microphone arm survived the bending test I did, and hopefully
it will last over time as well.

Audio quality – The COOL 2000 generates an impressive sound for a headset in this price range. It’s not perfect, but for the average user it would be more than enough.

In my opinion, the volume level isn’t that high, and you’ll be able to hear noise from the outside. but this is not a bad thing if you care about your hearing.

Also, the sound quality isn’t that deep, but because this is has over-the-ear headphones, the overall experience is very good.

Fits both young & adult users – There’s no need to extend/close the arc to fit the size of the headset to the specific user. The elastic headband is what grabs your head, and it feels like they headset has a good grip when wearing it.

Comfortable to wear for a long use – The headset is a bit bulky, especially if you’re young, but it’s quite light. The earphones are padded well, and the headband is soft and elastic. The outcome is of a headset that you can wear for long hours of gaming without getting tired from their weight or feeling pressure on your head.

The cons:

The LED light is no more than a gimmick – The only purpose of the LED light is as part of the headset’s futuristic design.

The buttons are a bit small – I know I said the headset doesn’t look cheap, but if I have to pinpoint a specific part that could be better – it’s the buttons. They are small, the volume wheel is simple, and when pressing them you get a reminder this is a low-budget headset.

People can hear what you’re listening to – This is caused because the headset has open-back-headphones. So what you hear generates sound (and probably noise) to the outside world.

The microphone quality is moderate – As you can hear in the sound test I included in the video, the built-in microphone offers a moderate quality at best. It is OK for gaming and SKYPE calls, and it doesn’t sound that bad when using the headset & the microphone simultaneously.

FAQ :

Q: What is included in the package?
A: The package included the following:

  • EasySMX COOL 2000 headset
  • 2-in-1 audio & mic adapter cable (3.5mm)
  • User manual (in several languages)
  • Thank you card with a discount coupon for future purchase on EasySMX products

Q: What is the wire’s length?
A: The wire is 2 meters long.

Q: What is the 2-in-1 audio & mic adapter cable for?
A: Certain devices such as laptops, usually combine the audio & microphone port, thus you’ll need the adapter.

Q: Can I turn off the headphones/microphones LEDs while using the headset?
A: Yes you can – there is one button that controls the headphones LED, and a separate button that controls the microphone’s LED.

Q: Can I shut off the microphone while listening to the headphones?
A: Yes, the headset allows separate control over the headphones and the microphone. When you switch the microphone off, the LED indicator will turn off, and the microphone won’t work. In this case, people can’t hear you, but you still can listen to the audio.
