Bicycle Phone Holder

The GUB G-85 is an affordable, durable smartphone mount for bicycles, letting you enjoy music or navigation while riding. It's a universal mount that can be attached either to the handlebar or the bicycle's stem, and the cradle itself can be positioned vertically or horizontally, so you can pick the setup and viewing angle that works best for you. Its 4-claw button design is meant to make it easier to fix phones of various sizes in place securely.

The mount is made from aluminum alloy (marked AL 6063 CNC on the unit itself), which the manufacturer positions as more durable and stable than plastic alternatives. It ships with the holder frame, a handlebar fixed clamp, mounting screws (M5x10 and M6x35), and a 3M adhesive patch meant to be applied to the mount's grip claws to help reduce vibration and protect the phone.

It supports devices between 50mm and 100mm wide, with a maximum supported thickness of 10mm, though as with any mount, not every smartphone shape or case will be a perfect fit. Since it attaches via a handlebar clamp with a 31.8mm grip diameter, it may also be possible to fit it on other vehicles such as motorbikes or scooters, though this isn't guaranteed. If you do want extra peace of mind securing your phone, some similar mounts include an additional strap or band across the front of the phone, which this one does not.

Pros

Durability Unlike plastic mounts that are prone to breaking during a ride, this one is made from a metal alloy that's much more durable.Note that there are similar-looking mounts on the market made from plastic or other more fragile materials.

Tight Grip Compared to many smartphone mounts, once your phone is placed correctly, it stays firmly in place.

Universal Compatibility Fits smartphones up to 100mm wide, which is relatively better compared to other mounts I've used so far.

Color Variety Available in a variety of colors that look good.

Two Ways To Install You can attach the mount either to the handlebar or to the bicycle's stem, whichever works best for your setup. The cradle itself can also be installed in either a vertical or horizontal position, so you can pick whichever viewing angle suits you.

Cons

Can Damage Smartphones Without A Protective Case This mount has a very tight grip, so if it's locked too tightly or absorbs an unexpected bump during a ride, it can damage the smartphone's edges. To avoid that, make sure your smartphone has a protective case, this matters for every phone, but it's even more critical if your smartphone has a curved edge (like the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 I used in my video review to demonstrate the mount).

Not Suitable For Certain Protective Cases Following the point above, this mount isn't ideal for some smartphone cases and protective covers, such as a folio-style case.

Installation Wasn't Smooth It can be a bit difficult to install the mount on your bike. In my case, there also appeared to be a missing part from the package, the rubber band meant to fit the handlebar's diameter. I'd advise making sure you have the right tools on hand before assembling it.

Overall Verdict

Overall, the GUB G-85 is a solid, successful phone mount for bicycles, especially considering its affordable price. The aluminum alloy build (not plastic) gives it a real sense of durability, and the grip is strong and secure. The mounting flexibility, handlebar or stem, vertical or horizontal, lets you set it up however works best for your ride.

The main caveat: because the grip is so tight, using a protective case on your phone is essentially a must. Without one, there's a real risk of scratches or damage, especially on phones with curved edges. Folio-style cases are also not a good match here, since the flip cover gets in the way of the mount's claws gripping the phone properly.

One open question: the screw-based clamping mechanism worked smoothly throughout my testing, but it's worth noting that long-term exposure to rain or moisture could eventually cause corrosion, which might make it harder to open and close down the line. This is more of a convenience concern than a safety one, and it's not something I've been able to verify over an extended period.

The Bottom Line

A great pick if you want a sturdy, affordable phone mount for your bike (and possibly a motorcycle or scooter), as long as you pair it with a protective case for your phone.
