Overview

Electric toy cars are, in my opinion, one of the coolest things out there. Some of my strongest childhood memories are tied to toy cars I drove myself. At my age, most of them still ran on pedals, and the electric models were rare and expensive when they existed at all. Today it is the opposite: you can find them almost anywhere, and prices are far more accessible.

Over the past few years I have bought quite a few electric ride-on toys for the kids in our family, in every size and type: cars, jeeps, motorcycles and more. They have all been a huge hit, and the kids seem to love driving them just as much as they know how to actually operate them. It is as if they were born with a steering wheel in their hands, and it clearly helps their motor skills too.

So when I came across an ad for electric bumper cars, the kind you would find at a boardwalk or amusement park, I knew right away I was buying them for the kids (currently ages 3 and 5). I picked up two units, one blue and one red, and I want to share the buying experience with you so you can judge for yourselves whether this was money well spent or a purchase we could have skipped.

Pros

Play Time: Handled 2 to 3 hours of intensive play per charge in our own testing, holding up well under real toddler use.

Dual Control Setup: The dual control setup works well in practice: a parent can steer with the remote for a younger toddler, while an older child can take over with the joystick.

LED Lights & Music: The LED lights and built in music add a fun, arcade like feel that both of our kids responded to right away.

Reliable Driving: Even with one unit's remote missing its LED indicator, actual driving performance was unaffected, so the core function held up fine.

Cons

LED Indicator Issue: The LED indicator on one of our two remotes does not light up at all, though the remote still steers its car normally.

Remote Pairing: A remote can lose its pairing and start controlling the wrong car, which then needs a manual re-pair to fix, see our FAQ below for how we handled it.

Long Charge Time: Charging takes 8 to 12 hours, so it needs a full overnight charge to be ready for a full day of play.

Overall Verdict

For the price, this electric bumper car has been a genuine hit in our house. Both of our kids, ages 3 and 5, took to it immediately, and it has held up well through repeated intensive play sessions, both in terms of battery life and general durability.

The two small issues we ran into, a non-working LED indicator on one remote and a remote that paired to the wrong car, are both minor and did not stop the cars from working properly once addressed. Neither is a dealbreaker given how much use and enjoyment we have gotten out of these so far.

If you are looking for a fun, relatively affordable ride-on toy that lets a parent stay in control early on and hands over the reins as the child gets more confident, this is a solid pick. We will keep using ours and update this review if anything changes over time.

The Bottom Line

A fun, durable ride-on for younger kids with both parent-controlled and child-controlled modes - a solid, affordable pick for ages 2 to 5.

FAQ

How long does the battery take to charge, and how long does it last?
In our own use, a full charge takes about 8 to 12 hours, so it needs a full overnight charge to be ready for a day of play. Once charged, it has handled 2 to 3 hours of intensive, continuous play in our testing.
How do I know when the battery is running low?
Based on what we observed, the LED lights start changing colors as the battery runs low, and the car itself visibly slows down, which is a good cue that it needs to be recharged.
My remote is controlling the wrong car, how do I fix it?
If you own more than one of these cars, it is possible for a remote to lose its pairing and start controlling the wrong unit. We ran into this ourselves, and the most likely explanation is that the pairing function on the remote got triggered and re-linked it to the other car. Since there is no official documentation covering this, based on our own troubleshooting the fix is to put the correct remote and car near each other, power the car off and back on, and then use the remote's pairing button or sequence so it re-links specifically to that car. If yours does not have a dedicated pairing button, power cycling the remote and car together while keeping other units turned off usually gets them to re-pair correctly.
