Summary:

A thick yoga mat, relatively comfortable to practice, average sweat absorption, relatively light for the size, high durability under extensive use.

The brand: Clever Yoga
The model: BetterGrip Yoga Mat (I like to call “Better Grip”).
Measurements: 72″ long x 25.6″ wide (183cm long x 65cm wide)
Thickness: 1/4” ~ 6mm Non-Slip Yoga Mat)
Weight: Approx. 2lb (~ 1Kg).
Color: Rose red

The Better Grip Yoga Mat is made from premium 100% Recyclable and ECO friendly TPE material which is UV resistant, odor-less and free from PVC, Phthalates, Silicone, Latex and other toxic materials. You know you are safe to practice on it with peace of mind. At 72” long and 25 1/4” wide this is longer than your average mat and the 1/4″ thickness gives you extra padding.

Most of our customers use yoga towels when they practice hot yoga and sweat heavily because a wet mat will make squeaky sounds with movements, which is normal for all the mats on the market. The difference with this mat is that you can just wipe your sweat off during your practice if you prefer not to have a towel on top of your mat. With high quality material, this mat is anti-tear too.

The pros:

The thickness provides great cushioning – Thanks to its thickness, this mat is excellent for people who have knee problems. This is probably the main advantage of this mat, because every person I spoke with about it, was impressed by its thickness.

It offers a firm grip – During the time I’ve been practicing with this mat, my yoga improved to a whole new level. A lot of it has to do with the great grip this mat provides.

Having a good grip allowed me to perform poses better, investigate them deeper (is it ok to say such thing!?), and drove me to try new things that were out of my comfort zone.

Good durability – After practicing with this mat for more than a year, it stayed in great condition. There are few scratches, and the material has a different texture in 2-3 areas, but overall the mat looks decent and is far from wearing out.

Doesn’t absorb smell – During the time I’ve been using this mat, it didn’t develop a bad odor.

Surprisingly not that heavy – Though this thick mat might seem massive, it doesn’t weight too much and easy to carry.

Reasonable price – This is a relatively affordable yoga mat.

Made from 100% non-toxic eco materials – According to the manufacturer, the yoga mat is made from TPE foam and is free from PVC, phthalates, silicone, latex and other toxic materials.

The cons:

Boring design – If you’re a Yogi, then the design shouldn’t bother you too much. But still, among all those wonderfully designed mats that are sold out there, this thick & unicolored mat is the least attractive mat that I could find.

Sweat absorption is average – I had some challenging practices on this mat, and it traveled with me to some high-temperature places.

But there is an “optimum” point that once you reach it, this mat becomes too sweaty. If that happens, it gets hard to have a firm grip on the mat and keep practicing.

Please note you will have to work hard to reach this “optimum” point, so I guess this makes this mat suitable more suitable for Vinyasa/Vijnana/less intense yoga styles, and less suitable for Power-Yoga (If you’re practicing Ashtanga – it depends how intense it gets…).
